Jackson debut: Bayern wins convincingly against Paphos

FC Bayern continues its unbeaten run this season. The Munich team also won its Champions League away game against Paphos FC convincingly. Nicolas Jackson scored his first goal in a Bayern jersey, while Harry Kane scored twice.

Pafos coach Juan Carlos Carcedo was able to call on David Luiz again in the club’s first ever Champions League home game, after he had been injured in the opening game of the competition against Piraeus (0-0). The 38-year-old Brazilian was one of five new faces in the starting line-up compared to the 2-1 win against Olympiakos Nicosia.

Vincent Kompany also made five changes after the 4-0 win against Werder Bremen: Kim, Guerreiro, Pavlovic, Kimmich, and Jackson moved into the starting lineup, while Tah, Boey, Bischof, Goretzka, and Gnabry took their places on the bench.

It was Pafos’ 26th game in European competition, while for Bayern it was their 530th. The favorites were clear, and Munich lived up to expectations from the start. The visitors moved the ball around, played confidently up front and created the first chances. Luis Diaz was denied by Pafos keeper Michael (7′), and Kane hit the inside post shortly afterwards (9′).

Kane scores twice, Jackson scores for the first time

The missed chances did nothing to change Bayern’s dominance, and shortly afterwards the visitors were able to celebrate taking a 1-0 lead. Olise set up Kane, who scored with his first touch from a tight angle (15′). Shortly afterwards, the Frenchman was involved again: Olise played the ball to Guerreiro, who combined with Jackson in the center and then scored in the right corner (21′).

Even with a two-goal lead, Munich did not let up – and celebrated a debut: Jackson scored his first goal in a Bayern shirt. The striker scored from Olise’s pass after turning (31′). Shortly afterwards, Munich even increased their lead to 4-0: Kane took advantage of Pafos’ tentative defense and scored his second goal (34′).

Olise puts the finishing touches on a quieter second half

However, the home side had the last word of the first half: after Luis Diaz missed the chance to make it 5-0 (44′), Orsic scored with an irresistible long-range shot into the corner (45′).

The goal seemed to give Pafos a boost, as the home side came out of the break with more courage. They even had a great chance, but Goldar headed the ball into his own player, Jaja, just in front of the Bayern goal (49′).

As time went on, Bayern picked up the pace again.
The number of shots on goal increased again, and Olise’s shot found the back of the net: his follow-up shot went just under the crossbar (68′). The Munich team then played out the game confidently, with Gnabry and Jackson hitting the post in the closing stages. It was their ninth win in nine competitive games.
