Garbiñe Muguruza ended her sporting career last year. Now she has announced some personal news: she is expecting her first child.
Former Spanish tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza met her husband four years ago while walking through Central Park in New York. Arthur Borges was a fan and wanted a selfie. Shortly afterwards, the couple started dating, got married last year – and now the next adventure is on the horizon.
The former world number one announced on Instagram with a Polaroid photo that she is going to be a mother. The 31-year-old wrote “Family” on two pictures of herself and one with her husband. She also posted two pink hearts.
“So happy for you both”
The first snapshot shows the former professional tennis player posing in front of palm trees in a black swimsuit with a clearly visible baby bump. The picture is a Polaroid held up to the camera by a hand against a tropical backdrop. Muguruza wears sunglasses and smiles relaxed at the camera.
Numerous tennis greats congratulated her under the post. Four-time Grand Slam winner Aryna Sabalenka wrote: “So happy for you both.” Caroline Wozniacki, who is now back on the court after taking time off to have a baby, also wrote: “Sending you all the best for this incredible new chapter.” Angelique Kerber also wrote: “Congratulations.” She also posted a red heart.
