Marco Neppe worked for FC Bayern Munich for ten years before the technical director had to leave the record champions in April 2024. Now the 39-year-old is taking on a new exciting role – in Paris.
Ligue 1 newcomers FC Paris are bringing sporting expertise on board. As the current eleventh-placed team in the French league announced on Wednesday, Marco Neppe will take over as sporting director on October 1, succeeding Francois Ferracci. “Marco Neppe brings extensive experience from one of Europe’s biggest clubs and has a prestigious track record,” said club president Pierre Ferracci, explaining the change in sporting leadership: “In the transition phase the club is currently undergoing with its promotion to Ligue 1, his expertise will be invaluable in continuing to build a high-quality squad.”
Majority owner Antoine Arnault also welcomes the appointment of an “experienced manager who has already held similar positions at an internationally successful club.” Neppe worked for FC Bayern Munich for a total of ten years, joining the club from Leverkusen in July 2014.
Neppe was most recently a consultant in MLS
Neppe began his career as a scout for the German serial champions, taking over as technical director in December 2021. His tenure saw the discovery of Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, among others. In April 2024, the mutually agreed separation that had been hinted at for some time took place.
With the arrival of sporting director Christoph Freund, Neppe had lost influence in Munich, and Max Eberl joined as the new sporting director. Most recently, Neppe worked as a consultant for Toronto FC in the MLS.
Neppe now wants to celebrate success in Paris alongside Kevin Trapp, who moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to the Seine during the last transfer window.
With six points from five games, Paris has made a better start than the other two promoted teams, Lorient (4 points) and Metz (1), who are at the bottom of the table.
