Milestone for DTB gem

Tatjana Maria is once again the German number one in women’s tennis. Ella Seidel reaches a milestone.

Despite a disappointing week, Tatjana Maria is once again the German number one in the world tennis rankings.

Although the 38-year-old from Bad Saulgau was clearly defeated in the first round of the WTA tournament in Seoul, she successfully defended her 44th place in the rankings and displaced Laura Siegemund from the top national position. Ella Seidel climbed into the top 100 for the first time.

Siegemund slips ten places

Siegemund, the surprise quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, lost a few points after her first-round exit in Seoul and slipped from 43rd to 53rd place. Eva Lys, who reached the round of 16 in South Korea, climbed three places to 66th.

Meanwhile, Germany’s new hope Seidel reached an important milestone in her young career in the new world rankings. The Hamburg native, who was already in strong form before the tournament in Seoul, where she advanced to the quarterfinals, has now rewarded herself with her first entry into the top 100. Instead of 105th last week, she is now number 95 in the world.

At the top, everything remained the same. US Open winner Aryna Sabalenka extended her commanding lead over second-placed Iga Swiatek of Poland to 2792 points. In the men’s rankings, Carlos Alcaraz (Spain/11,540 points) remains just ahead of Jannik Sinner (Italy/10,780). Alexander Zverev, who is struggling for form, is now far behind in third place with 5,930 points.
