“It’s happening”: Tyson to box Mayweather in 2026

The two boxing icons will face each other for the first time in an exhibition match in the spring.

Former world boxing champions Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face each other in an exhibition match in spring 2026. “No one thought this fight would ever happen. But he wants to do it – so it’s signed and it’s happening,” US icon Tyson is quoted as saying in a statement released by promoter CSI Sports on Thursday.

An exact date and location for the fight were not specified, with producer CSI Sports only announcing a new streaming and TV partnership.

“I still can’t believe Floyd really wants to do this. It will damage his health,” said Tyson, who is considered one of the most successful heavyweight boxers in history and will turn 60 in June. “You know, when I do something, it’s going to be big and legendary. I’m the best. This fight will give the fans what they want,” said Mayweather, 48, who has never lost any of his 50 professional fights and has been world champion in five weight classes.

Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2005, while Mayweather boxed until 2017. Because they fought in different weight classes, the superstars never competed against each other. However, both repeatedly stepped into the ring for exhibition fights. Tyson lost his last fight in November 2024 in Arlington, Texas, to YouTuber and professional boxer Jake Paul.
