Slot gives the all-clear for Wirtz

Florian Wirtz was substituted late in Liverpool’s narrow victory in the top match against Arsenal due to injury. In the evening, the all-clear was given, so there is no cause for concern.

In the 1-0 victory in the top match against Arsenal, Florian Wirtz was in the starting lineup, as he had been in the previous two Premier League games—and once again, the offensive player was substituted in the final phase. This time, however, it was not tactical considerations by coach Arne Slot that were decisive, but rather an injury to his left thigh.

The 22-year-old was injured during a tackle with former Dortmund player Mikel Merino, immediately grabbed his right thigh and had to receive treatment. In pain and limping, he left the field shortly afterwards.

At first, it was not clear what kind of injury it was. A cramp or something muscular? Now it is clear: Wirtz was only struggling with cramps. “After 85 minutes, he didn’t know he could get cramps in so many different places, and that’s exactly what happened,” said coach Arne Slot in the evening, adding smugly: “It wasn’t an injury, it was a welcome to the Premier League!”

Record transfer and rising star

Wirtz moved to Anfield Road this summer for a record transfer fee of €150 million (fixed sum of around €125 million) from Bayer 04 Leverkusen to Anfield Road and is considered a great hope for the English champions, where he immediately secured a place in the starting lineup. However, he has not yet been able to make as big an impact on the Reds’ game as he did in Leverkusen.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann can also breathe a sigh of relief, as the attacking player will be available for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in Slovakia on Thursday (8:45 p.m.) and three days later against Northern Ireland (8:45 p.m.).
