Contract terminated: Boateng leaves LASK with immediate effect

LASK and Jerome Boateng are going their separate ways. The 36-year-old’s contract has been terminated by mutual agreement, the club announced on Tuesday.

After one year and only 14 competitive appearances, the collaboration between LASK and Jerome Boateng has come to an end. The club and the 36-year-old center back have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. This was announced by the club in a press release on Tuesday. The original contract would have run until summer 2026.

LASK sporting director Dino Buric commented on the departure as follows: “Jerome has always conducted himself professionally during his time at LASK and has done everything he could to help the team with his experience. He has played an important role, especially for our young players, by supporting and pushing them. We would like to thank him very much for that. We wish Jerome all the best and every success in his next steps.“

”I would like to thank LASK for their trust and the time we spent together here in Linz. It was an enriching experience to work in a new environment once again. Now is the right time for me to start a new chapter. I will announce the new challenges that await me in the future, both professionally and personally, in the near future. I wish LASK all the best and every success for the future,” said the departing defender on his departure.

Boateng was found guilty of assaulting his former partner in July last year. However, the Munich Regional Court merely issued him with a warning and imposed a suspended fine. For this reason, Boateng’s signing was met with widespread criticism. LASK stated at the time that the 2014 World Cup winner would only face sanctions if the court imposed a penalty that would prevent him from practicing his profession.
