Lys in Cleveland in the round of 16

Eva Lys makes an impressive comeback in the second set and is in good form ahead of the last Grand Slam of the year.

Eva Lys regains confidence shortly before the US Open. The 23-year-old from Hamburg won her opening match at the WTA tournament in Cleveland against third-seeded Australian Maya Joint 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16.

There, Lys will face Polina Kudermetova of Russia, who defeated American Katrina Scott 6-4, 6-4.

At the 250-tournament in Ohio, Lys took advantage of her first match point after an hour and a half, having been 1-4 down in the second set.

Lys cooler in the decisive moments

Both players had repeatedly struggled with their serve earlier in the match. However, Lys, ranked 62nd in the world, remained cooler than Joint, who is 18 places above her in the rankings, in the decisive moments.

The US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, begins on August 24.
