At the Masters in Cincinnati, Ella Seidel faces a top ten player – and the match takes an unexpected turn.
Ella Seidel caused a surprise at the Masters tournament in Ohio, celebrating the biggest success of her career to date. The 20-year-old from Hamburg defeated eighth-seeded Emma Navarro from the US 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. The world number 124 came back from 1-4 down in the decisive set.
Seidel had already won as an underdog against Polina Kudermetova in the previous round. With her advance to the third round of the tournament, which has a prize fund of around $5.2 million, she is now the last German player in the field.
In her next match, Seidel will face Caty McNally or McCartney Kessler from the US. Laura Siegemund, Eva Lys, and Tatjana Maria were eliminated earlier.
