DTM BoP changed: Ferrari and Lambo slowed down, advantages for Ford & BMW

The result of the first DTM qualifying at the Nürburgring has consequences: The BoP is being completely turned upside down once again – changes for almost all cars

This decision comes as no surprise given Ferrari’s strong dominance in the first DTM qualifying session at the Nürburgring: Ahead of Saturday’s race, the SRO Motorsports Group, as BoP service provider for the ADAC, has made extensive changes to the classification.

After all three Ferrari 296 GT3s from Emil Frey Racing finished in the top four, the minimum weight for the Italian sports car has been increased by a whopping 15 kilograms. At the same time, the maximum boost pressure has been reduced by 0.06 bar.

Lamborghini is also among those affected by the latest BoP change: after Luca Engstler secured third place on the grid for the Grasser Lamborghini, all Italian sports cars will have to carry an additional 15 kilograms of ballast.

McLaren and Mercedes also have to add weight

The McLaren driven by Timo Glock and Ben Dörr will also be ten kilograms heavier, while the Mercedes teams will have to add 20 kilograms. However, there will be no changes to the restrictor (at Mercedes) or the boost pressure (at McLaren).

The situation is different at Porsche: although the minimum weight of the 911 GT3 R has increased by ten kilograms, the two restrictors have also been enlarged by two millimeters each, which will benefit Thomas Preining and his Manthey teammates.

BMW and Ford can also harbor small hopes of a performance gain in Saturday’s first DTM race: While the Mustang GT3 will be ten kilograms lighter, BMW Team Schubert will even be allowed to unload 15 kilograms from the M4 GT3. Otherwise, there are no changes for Ford and BMW.

At Aston Martin, the weight remains unchanged, but the maximum permitted boost pressure has been increased by 0.04 bar. Only Audi is unaffected by the BoP changes after the first DTM qualifying session at the Nürburgring.
