Oleksandr Usyk remains the undisputed boxing world champion. The Ukrainian knocked down Daniel Dubois and is now possibly waiting for Tyson Fury.
Oleksandr Usyk has been crowned undisputed heavyweight boxing world champion for the second time since 2024. The Ukrainian defeated Britain’s Daniel Dubois by knockout in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.
Usyk thus snatched the IBF world title from Dubois and added it to his WBA, WBC, and WBO belts.
“I thank Jesus. I thank my team. I thank Wembley,” said Usyk.
Usyk merciless
It was his 24th victory in 24 professional fights, while Dubois suffered his third defeat in his 25th fight – and his second against Usyk. Usyk had already defeated him by knockout in 2023. This year, Usyk sent him to the ground with his characteristic left hook.
“Usyk brutally knocks out Daniel Dubois and wins the second fight to become three-time undisputed world champion,” wrote The Sun.
Is Fury next?
Dubois was subsequently named IBF world champion, and Usyk also won the second fight against Fury in December.
What happens next for Usyk is still up in the air. Fury is said to be looking for a third showdown after his retirement, and German up-and-comer Agit Kabayel (Bochum) is also hoping for a quick match with Usyk as interim WBC world champion.
