On the first matchday of the Danish 3F Superliga, FC Midtjylland and Odense BK played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, thanks to some familiar faces from the German leagues.
It was Alexander Zorniger’s first competitive game on the sidelines for newly promoted Odense BK, and anyone watching the former SpVgg Greuther Fürth head coach’s attacking line-up could have been forgiven for thinking they were watching a second division game. With the two new signings Fiete Arp (from Holstein Kiel) and Noah Ganaus (Jahn Regensburg), two familiar faces from the German lower leagues were playing for Zorniger’s team. But Franculino had the last word once again – and how! The striker artistically plucked a pass out of the air with his left foot and then finished from eight meters with a bicycle kick into the left corner, a dream goal (85). This made it 3-3 and denied Zorniger, Arp, and Ganaus three points on their league debut.
Ganaus gets off to a dream start
Ganaus in particular had the perfect debut: the 24-year-old took advantage of a terrible mistake by FCM keeper Lössl after just two minutes and coolly slotted the ball into the empty net. And in the 30th minute, Ganaus was back in the thick of the action: defender Lee carelessly let his cross slip through to Grot, who gratefully accepted and slotted home to make it 2-0.
There was a ray of hope for the center back: shortly before the half-time whistle, he set up the goal that reduced the deficit, with Franculino poking the ball into the net to make it 1-2 (45+2). Three minutes later, Buksa put a rebound into the net, and the teams went into the break with the score at 2-2 after the double strike.
Arp scores from the spot, Franculino brilliant
In the second half, Zorniger’s team found their way back into the game and in the 66th minute, Owuso was brought down in the box. Arp converted the penalty to score his debut goal with a cool finish into the top left corner.
