The FC Bayern basketball team has bid farewell to two key players: Nick Weiler-Babb and Carsen Edwards are leaving Munich.
“Carsen and Nick have played a big part in our successful season and will always have a special place in our club thanks to their achievements,” said FCBB sporting director Dragan Tarlac on the German champions’ website. “We wish both guys every success in their future endeavors and are sure we’ll see them again soon.”
Edwards, who missed the end of last season due to injury, moved to Munich from Fenerbahce Istanbul in 2023 and, under coach Gordon Herbert, became by far the most successful shooter in the club’s history, averaging 20.4 points per game in the Euroleague. He was also selected for the All-First Team.
In the Bundesliga, Edwards, who won two championships and one cup with Bayern, averaged 12 points in 25 games in his first season in the main round. In the playoffs, he improved to an average of 18 points in 11 games. Last year, he averaged 14.9 points in the main round.
Both players are switching within the Euroleague
The departure of Weiler-Babb is also a blow for Bayern. The 29-year-old German international has exercised his opt-out clause. The shooting guard moved to Munich in 2020, playing a total of 161 BBL games for Bayern (7.8 points per game) and exactly the same number in the Euroleague (6.9 points per game).
Under Herbert, he was primarily responsible for playmaking in the point guard position for the first time. With 1.5 steals per game, he was the Euroleague’s best ball thief and also the BBL’s “best defender.” Weiler-Babb won three cups and two German championships with Bayern.
The new clubs for the two players have not yet been determined, with Bayern only stating that both players will be moving within the Euroleague.
