Vasseur confirms: New Ferrari upgrade planned for Silverstone

Ferrari takes action: Team principal Frederic Vasseur announces an update ahead of Silverstone, but warns against high expectations

Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur confirmed after the Canadian weekend that the team will soon be introducing a technical upgrade. The move comes at the right time: Ferrari is increasingly falling behind in the current performance trio of McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes.

“We will be bringing an upgrade soon – before the British Grand Prix,” said Vasseur on the sidelines of the race weekend in Montreal. “And maybe another one a little later.” No specific date was given, but everything points to Austria or Silverstone.

The goal is clear: Ferrari wants to be competitive again. In Canada, both Red Bull and Mercedes were clearly stronger, with McLaren setting the benchmark for weeks. The Scuderia, on the other hand, stood out mainly for its lack of consistency, setup sensitivity, and technical problems—on Sunday, they only managed fifth and sixth place in Montreal, despite Lando Norris’ retirement.

Vasseur: It’s more about execution than pure speed

But Vasseur urges caution. Given the frozen regulations, major leaps forward are hardly possible: “We are at the end of the current regulation period. If you bring something new today, it’s more about hundredths than tenths.”

He emphasizes that it’s not just the hardware that counts, but how you work with it: “We’ve had the problem a few times in the past where we’ve brought an upgrade, but then needed one or two races to get the setup right.”
