HSV extends cooperation with UKE to Bundesliga women

Bundesliga newcomers Hamburger SV have extended their cooperation with their long-standing sports medicine partner. The women’s team will also benefit from this.

In mid-May, HSV fans were on cloud nine: first, the men’s team finally made it back to the Bundesliga after several attempts, and then, one day later, the women’s team followed suit. Thirteen years after withdrawing for financial reasons, they will be playing in the top flight of German soccer again starting next season.

And the two teams will not only be playing at the top level, but will also receive the same level of medical care. As HSV announced on Friday evening, the cooperation with its sports medicine partner, the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, which has been in place for several years, has been expanded.

As part of this, the cooperation, which has previously focused primarily on the men’s team, will also be extended to the women’s team. “Here, too, we want to exploit synergies and provide the women with the best possible sports medical care. The integration will become even closer,” said sporting director Stefan Kuntz on the HSV website.

The HSV will benefit from the opening of the new Athleticum at the Volkspark in the immediate vicinity of the Volksparkstadion, which is planned for the beginning of fall this year. This is a joint project between the UKE and HSV, as well as two partners from the private sector. “Greater proximity, more specialists, and almost all medical departments on site will ensure a significantly expanded range of medical services,” says Kuntz.
