Wearing a sombrero and a broad smile: Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev celebrated his first doubles victory on the ATP Tour without his brother Mischa. The Hamburg native, alongside his Brazilian buddy Marcelo Melo, confidently defeated Alexander Erler from Austria and Robert Galloway from the US 6-3, 6-4 in the final in Acapulco.
Zverev: “This is something very special.”
“Marcelo has been my best friend for over ten years and we’ve finally won a tournament together,” said Zverev, who suffered a bitter disappointment in the singles in Acapulco when he was knocked out in the round of 16: “We’ve been in the final a few times and now we’ve finally done it. It’s something very special.”
For Zverev, it was his third doubles triumph on the ATP Tour, with his first two final victories in 2017 and 2019 – also in Acapulco – coming with his older brother Mischa.
