Zverev advances to the semi-finals in Los Cabos

After his bitter semi-final exit at the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev can continue to hope for his first singles tournament win of the year in Mexico. He is also favored in his next appearance

Tennis pro Alexander Zverev has reached the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico, with nerves of steel. The 26-year-old beat Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 6:3, 6:4 and can continue to hope for his first singles tournament win of the year. Zverev fended off all twelve break points from his opponent. After just under two hours, he converted his third match point.

As the tournament’s top seed, he will once again face an Australian in Jordan Thompson in the round of the top four and is the favorite going into the match. The other semi-final will be contested by Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece and the Norwegian Casper Ruud

Zverev had canceled his participation in the Davis Cup qualifying round in Hungary at the beginning of February due to a viral infection. The world number six had already fallen ill in Melbourne on his way to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, where he lost to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
