Yankees beat A’s, set up “best ever” ALDS clash with Red Sox

This year’s Boston Red Sox won more games than any other Red Sox team in history. As such, they’re the favourites to win the World Series. However, the rival Yankees wait in the American League Division Series. They also made history by becoming the winningest Wild Card team ever.

Aaron Judge inspires victory over Oakland A’s

Last night’s 7-2 win over the Oakland A’s was an appetizer for what’s to come – the AL Divisional matchup between the Yankees and the Red Sox. One key figure in New York’s win was Aaron Judge, a player who missed 45 games this season with a broken bone in his hand. His first inning two-run home run took the pressure off his teammates and his double in the sixth inning opened up the flood gates and put the game beyond any doubt.

Red Sox have every right to fear Yankees

The Red Sox have every right to fear the Bronx Bombers, especially with Judge available. He hit .346 with five home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.096 OPS in 14 games against Boston this year. The Yankees went 8-6 in those games. The Yankees also went 72-36 with Aaron Judge in the lineup. Translate those numbers to a full season and you end up with 108 wins, which would equal Boston’s record.

“They’re still the Yankees,”

“You still fear them—and our fans do, too.” – said longtime Red Sox radio voice Joe Castiglione

Chants of  “We want Boston” were heard repeatedly at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night, more and more as the game wore on. The two rivals haven’t met in the post-season since the epic 2004 AL Championship Series. 14 years later, they meet as the best Boston Red Sox team ever and the best Wild Card team ever. No brash predictions were made from either side, partly because of mutual respect and partly because no one wants to give the other team an edge. Both teams are fully healthy, so the stage is set for another unforgettable Red Sox – Yankees series.
