Lamine Yamal continues his pursuit of records. The Spaniard is on course to equal another of Kylian Mbappé’s records in the Champions League.
Lamine Yamal is on the verge of his next milestone in the Champions League. The 19-year-old has scored twelve goals for FC Barcelona in Europe’s premier club competition and could equal Kylian Mbappé’s record with another goal against Galatasaray on Tuesday. The Real Madrid striker had scored 13 Champions League goals before his 20th birthday.
Yamal had already surpassed one record with his goal against Feyenoord at the start of the group stage: eleven goals before his 19th birthday means one more than Mbappé had at the same age. After 34 Champions League appearances, Barcelona’s number ten also has eleven assists to his name.
Champions League: Yamal on the hunt for a record
Yamal has been breaking records ever since his debut against Royal Antwerp under former manager Xavi. In the 2023/24 season, he became the youngest player to start a match in the competition’s history in the clash with FC Porto, but had to leave the game early due to feeling unwell.
UEFA also lists him as the youngest player to have both scored and provided an assist in a Champions League match – an achievement he accomplished against Benfica in the 2024/25 season.
In April 2025, Yamal also became the youngest player to score in a Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan. Now, with Mbappé’s record, the next prominent benchmark is within reach.
