WWE comeback reshuffles the deck

Cody Rhodes is back at WWE and resuming his feud with John Cena. Another star is also making a comeback—and joining forces with Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins, and Bron Breakker.

More than a month after his defeat in the main event of WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes is back and his feud with WWE Champion John Cena is heating up again.

During the TV special Saturday Night’s Main Event on Saturday night, the “American Nightmare” made an unannounced appearance in the main event between World Champion Jey Uso and social media star Logan Paul, countering an intervention by Cena and setting up a tag team match at the next big event, Money in the Bank.

Another star had already made his return: Bronson Reed, who had been out with a long-term injury, helped Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker to victory over Punk and Sami Zayn in the opening match with an attack on CM Punk. Reed then allied himself with his former rival Rollins, joining the group formed at WrestleMania by legendary manager Paul Heyman.

WWE Champion Cena then competed in a non-title match against his old companion R-Truth, whom he defeated decisively, as expected. In a backstage segment, he then encountered World Champion Uso and hinted at his involvement in the main event.

Record title holder Cena turned to Uso and said that he would be watching the fight against Logan Paul closely – after all, it would “ruin wrestling” if Uso lost the title to “a YouTuber.”

Cena showed that this is exactly how he wanted to be in his new role as the league’s bitter arch-villain when he pulled the referee out of the action just before Uso was about to defeat Paul. When Cena then tried to beat up Uso, Rhodes’ music sounded and he hit Cena with his finisher, the Cross Rhodes.

Uso then prevented Paul from defeating him unfairly with brass knuckles and pinned him after a frog splash. Rhodes then issued a challenge for Money in the Bank on June 8 in Los Angeles.

In another big match, Damian Priest defeated his archrival Drew McIntyre in a Steel Cage Match, while Zelina Vega defended her Women’s US Title against former titleholder Chelsea Green.
