World Judo Championships: World Champion Wagner loses to Böhm

World champion Anna-Maria Wagner lost the German judo summit at the World Championships in Tashkent against European champion Alina Böhm.

World champion Anna-Maria Wagner lost the German judo summit at the World Championships in Tashkent against European champion Alina Böhm and thus missed the hoped-for title defence. In the quarter-finals of the 78 kg category, the 24-year-old Böhm (Heubach) beat Wagner (Ravensburg), who is two years older, and will meet the two-time world champion Mayra Aguiar (Brazil) in the semi-finals this afternoon.

Wagner, who lost after 3:39 minutes due to the third penalty, then missed the chance for bronze in the consolation round. The Olympic bronze medallist in Tokyo lost to Japan’s Olympic champion Shori Hamada, as she did in the semi-finals at the 2021 Summer Games, and thus missed out on a place in the small final.

In Tashkent, the German Judo Federation (DJB) has so far won a medal through Katharina Menz (silver on the opening day in the 48 kg category).
