Venus Williams is preparing in Bad Homburg for her Wimbledon comeback with her sister Serena. Her singles match ends in defeat.
Tennis icon Venus Williams suffered a defeat in her dress rehearsal for her Wimbledon doubles comeback. The 46-year-old American lost to Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu in a close match at the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg, with scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 6-7 (6-8).
Williams, who has been participating in WTA Tour tournaments on and off for several months thanks to wild cards, thus suffered her eleventh consecutive loss. Most recently, the seven-time Grand Slam champion competed in Madrid, where she lost in the first round to 20-year-old Kaitlin Quevedo of Spain.
In 2026, Williams—who has been a professional since 1994 and is currently ranked 471st in the world—has yet to win a singles match on the tour. Her last victory came in July 2025 in Washington against her compatriot Peyton Stearns, marking her comeback after more than a year away from the game.
At the tournament in Bad Homburg, Williams is preparing for the grass-court highlight at Wimbledon (starting June 29), where she will make her doubles comeback with her sister Serena. The duo has enjoyed great success together, including 14 Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold medals in 2000, 2008, and 2012.
