Will the Vancouver Whitecaps soon be moving to Las Vegas? There are reports that there has been an offer to that effect.
Thomas Müller and his Vancouver Whitecaps could be on the verge of moving to Las Vegas, as the Major League Soccer club has received an offer from a potential buyer, according to media reports. As reported by The Athletic, the interested party is said to be Grant Gustavson, son of billionaire Tamara Gustavson.
The Whitecaps announced earlier this week that they had not yet found a suitable buyer to keep the team in the city on Canada’s west coast.
Relocation as the last solution
The current investors want to sell the club. If no buyer can be found who wants to keep the team in Vancouver, a move to another city is possible. This is not uncommon in North America. NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, for example, emerged from the Seattle SuperSonics in 2008.
The Whitecaps have been playing in Major League Soccer since 2011. Last year, they reached the final with long-time Bayern star Müller, but lost to Inter Miami with Argentina’s world champion Lionel Messi.
