Werder must do without Veljkovic against Schalke

Werder Bremen must do without Milos Veljkovic in Saturday night’s top match against Schalke 04.

As the club announced on Tuesday evening, the Serbian international suffered a muscle injury in the international match in Portugal. During a running duel with Diogo Jota, Veljkovic cleared the ball but sustained the injury.

Serbia qualified for the World Cup with a 2-1 win in Lisbon, but Werder will now have to do without the 26-year-old in the explosive clash between the two relegated teams on Saturday.

Veljkovic has been in Werder’s starting line-up ten times (eleven appearances) in the league so far and is one of the key players in coach Markus Anfang’s team. According to the club, he will immediately begin individual rehabilitation measures. Werder did not provide any further information on the length of his absence.
