“We will never forget this”: Cristiano Ronaldo thanks Anfield fans

With remarkable gestures, Liverpool FC fans had encouraged Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday. The Manchester United striker has now thanked the fans for their support.

Ronaldo had shared news of the loss of their newborn son with partner Georgina Rodriguez on Monday evening. While one girl was born well, his twin brother died at or shortly after birth. As a result, the 37-year-old had foregone his participation in Tuesday’s game at Liverpool.

Reds and Manchester United fans had risen from their seats together during the match in the seventh minute and applauded for 60 seconds, also singing the legendary “You’ll never walk alone”. “That was my moment of the game,” Liverpool team manager Jürgen Klopp had said: “The fans showed great class. There are so many things in life that are much more important than football, we feel for Cristiano and his family.”

Now Cristiano Ronaldo has also spoken out, thanking the support. “One world … One sport … One global family. Thank you, Anfield. Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion,” wrote “CR7” on Instagram.
