Watzke sharply criticises Zwayer’s approach: “That’s not the way to do it”

Felix Zwayer wants a personal meeting with Jude Bellingham. BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke reacted irritated – and with clear words.

For his much-discussed criticism of referee Felix Zwayer, Jude Bellingham must pay a fine of 40,000 euros. But will the Borussia Dortmund midfielder pay it himself?

“We’re still talking to him about that,” BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke told “Amazon Prime Video “ on Tuesday evening. “We’ll probably split it somehow.”

According to Watzke, the reason BVB accepted the DFB verdict was precisely twofold: “because we wanted to have peace and quiet and because we wanted to make sure he could continue playing, i.e. not be suspended. “

For Zwayer, however, the case is not yet settled. The referee wants a personal talk with Bellingham and a “sincere apology “, as he explained via “Bild”. Watzke confirmed a letter from Zwayer to BVB officials to that effect, but was clearly critical of the referee’s actions.

“If Mr. Zwayer sends me and Michael Zorc a letter today and thus initiates a discussion, we can gladly discuss it. But when I read the same thing an hour later in the media with original quotes, then I have to say: I don’t hold confidential talks with anyone, when it’s already in the tabloids an hour later. That’s not how it works,” said Watzke. That is why he sees “no great chance of realisation” for such a conversation.
