VfL Wolfsburg set to sign Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is set to move to the Bundesliga. According to a report from Denmark, the 33-year-old will join VfL Wolfsburg.

VfL Wolfsburg is set to strengthen its squad with Christian Eriksen. The 33-year-old Danish international, who has been without a club since his contract with Manchester United expired in the summer, is set to sign for the Bundesliga club shortly.

Eriksen is already on his way from Odense in Denmark to Wolfsburg, where he will undergo medical tests and, if successful, sign his contract. The Danish record international (144 games, 46 goals), who suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch at the European Championship in the summer of 2021, is thus following the call of Wolfsburg’s new sporting director Peter Christiansen, a compatriot of Eriksen’s.

Many Danes in Wolfsburg

Joakim Maehle, Jesper Lindström, Andreas Skov Olsen, Adam Daghim, and Jonas Wind are five other Danes under contract with the Lower Saxony club.

VfL does not really have a great need in central midfield. There are high hopes for Lovro Majer in the number 10 position, and Mattias Svanberg, Bence Dardai, and Wind can also play behind the strikers. Eriksen, who most recently spent three years with the Red Devils, brings with him experience from over 300 Premier League games, and he has played in over 100 Champions League and Europa League games.

On Wednesday, rumors emerged that Bayer Leverkusen was interested in the midfielder. On Monday, the Werkself had also presented Kasper Hjulmand, a compatriot of Eriksen’s, as their new coach. Instead, Eriksen, who most recently kept fit in Sweden with Malmö FF, is moving to a league rival, where he hopes to keep his chances of participating in the World Cup next summer alive. He was not included in coach Brian Riemer’s squad for the last two qualifying matches against Scotland (0-0) and Greece (3-0).
