Vechta wins again against Bayern and settles at the top

RASTA Vechta has firmly established itself in the top third of the table and has also won its second game of the season against Bayern Munich.

After the clear defeat in last week’s top game against Braunschweig, Vechta was able to fall back on its defensive anchor again. Johann Grünloh was still missing through injury last week. The 19-year-old made his presence felt from the outset. Bayern, on the other hand, failed to find their offensive rhythm, seemingly still feeling the effects of the two EuroLeague games that took place during the week. As a result, a lot of the play was centered around their talented individual players.

But even as the game progressed, Bayern continued to struggle with the three-point shot. Only eight balls (out of 34) flew through the hoop from three-point range (24%). This was also due to the fact that Carsen Edwards, deep in the clock, repeatedly had to step in and force difficult shots.

Low shooting percentage for Bayern

Niels Giffey (12) and Andreas Obst (11) provided some relief at times. However, it was obvious that the reigning champions lacked an alternative ball handler without Nick Weiler-Babb and Shabazz Napier.

On the defensive side, the eye-catching Jayden Gardner repeatedly caused problems for Munich in the zone (19, 9/15). Joshka Ferner (12) made the game safe with three buckets from outside in the final period.

Munich therefore lost the second leg, as it did the first, to RASTA Vechta, who continued their upward trend of recent months and captured their fifth victory from the past seven games.

Both teams now face their next game already on Tuesday: RASTA Vechta visits the MBC (6:30 p.m., live on Dyn). After that, Bayern host Skyliners Frankfurt (8 p.m., live on Dyn).
