VBL: Ingolstadt and Leipzig stay in step

The Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) Club Championship by bevestor has started into 2022 with the seventh double-header, and there were no changes at the top of the table

‘TimoX’ saves Ingolstadt the top of the table

Ten points were enough for FC Ingolstadt on Wednesday to defend their lead at the top of the table in the South-East Division of the VBL Club Championship. The “Schanzers” can thank Timo ‘TimoX’ Siep, who won both his singles – including the brilliant 6:1 against Fürth’s Ramazan ‘El17rambo’ Elmas – as well as a doubles with Philipp ‘Eisvogel’ Schermer.

In the end, Ingolstadt had a 6:3 win against Fürth and a 4:4 win against 1. FC Heidenheim. Only against Heidenheim’s doubles Deniel ‘Denii10’ Mutic and Burak ‘burak__may’ May, ‘TimoX’, again with ‘Eisvogel’, had nothing to gain (0:3).

Leipzig still one point behind

In view of Ingolstadt’s haul, RB Leipzig had offered themselves the chance to return to first place. The Saxons, however, also had to settle for a total of ten points against Mainz (3:6) and Darmstadt (7:1) and thus remain one point behind the “Schanzers”.

Especially on the Xbox there was not much to order this time, Richard ‘RBLZ_GAUCHO’ Hormes only got one point against Mainz’ Max ‘Kuchinter’ Winter (1:3) and Darmstadt’s Marcel ‘DonChap28’ Deutscher (2:2). On the other hand, Umut ‘RBLZ_UMUT’ Gültekin was once again in top form and increased his tally to 17 wins – the best in the league.

Continued unbeaten: Augsburg now third

Continuing on the rise is FC Augsburg, who have long since come to terms with their mixed start to the season with 15 points from their first four matches. Although the Swabians’ results against Nuremberg (6:3) and Frankfurt (4:4) were not ideal either, they were enough to move past FCN into third place in the table.

Augsburg are now undefeated in eleven matches, having lost 6-3 to Fürth on the second matchday. Yannic ‘Yannic0109’ Bederke was the point guarantor on Wednesday: Against Nuremberg, he, as well as Christoph ‘xThePunisher-96’ Geule, scored a single victory. Against Eintracht, the 21-year-old had a draw and a doubles win with his brother Philipp ‘Phlip1089’ Bederke.

Despite slip-up against Jahn: Sandhausen can dream

SV Sandhausen are slowly starting to dream: Although the 2:5 defeat against bottom team SSV Jahn Regensburg was anything but as desired for the team from Baden, thanks to the 6:3 defeat against Fürth, the play-off places remain within reach.

SVS are currently eighth, four points behind sixth-placed Heidenheim. Against Fürth, Luca ‘Skandalesi111’ Alesi and Dave ‘Dave’ Queck provided the important singles wins, while against Regensburg, Francesco ‘Bajazzo_07’ Mazzei and the doubles team of ‘Bajazzo_07’ and ‘Skandalesi111’ both drew.

Only ‘Cihan’ keeps Hertha alive

In contrast, things continue to go downhill for Hertha BSC. Since the thumping 7:1 triumph against Leipzig at the beginning of December, the capital city side have been gradually slipping down the table, and there was no sign of improvement at the start of the new year either.

At least Cihan ‘Cihan’ Yasarlar saved some points for Hertha against Hoffenheim (2:5) and Regensburg (4:4): Against Hoffenheim’s Lukas ‘Lukas_1004’ Seiler it was a 1:1, against Regensburg’s Leon ‘leonk_twitchtv’ Kipry with 2:1 the only win of the day. Otherwise, the Berliners did not manage more than two draws.

Werder stumble into the new year

With 80 goals, SV Werder Bremen may be the goal factory of the North-West Division, but it was not enough to make the hoped-for leap to the top of the league on Tuesday. At the end of the first half of the season, the Hanseatic League team suffered a heavy and surprising 6-3 defeat at the hands of SC Paderborn.

The subsequent 4:4 against 1. FC Köln at the start of the second half of the season was more conciliatory. In top form was once again Ali ‘PredatorFIFA’ Oskoui Rad, who won both games on the Xbox, against Cologne’s Tim ‘TheStrxngeR’ Katnawatos even with 5:1.

‘H96_Riad’ loses, 96 still stays ahead

Happy Hannover 96 should have taken note of their northern rivals’ results, thanks to which the Lower Saxons remain top of the table. Although the Hanoverians only picked up nine points for their part, they still have the chance to pick up more – namely, the doubles against Wolfsburg (6:0) and Rostock (3:3) have to be made up.

If 96 win twice, the lead over Bremen will shoot up to ten points. The second single defeat on Tuesday was suffered by Riad ‘H96_Riad’ Fazlija, who lost to Rostock’s Henning ‘FCH_Henning’ Wilmbusse 1:4. In the first round, only Marc ‘marc_ldw23’ Landwehr from Leverkusen managed a win against ‘H96_Riad’.

Rostock stay within striking distance

For Rostock, on the other hand, the successful debut season in the VBL continues: After the draw against Hannover, they started the second half of the season with a 7:1 win against FC St. Pauli. Levy Finn ‘levyfinn’ Rieck played big twice, after winning the singles match he also got the upper hand in the doubles with ‘FCH_Henning’.

The Hansa-Kogge thus remains within reach of the play-off places in the north-west season, Rostock is currently only three points behind Leverkusen – and still has the doubles match against Hanover up its sleeve.

‘Cooolliiin.fifa’ debuts for Kiel

‘Cooolliiin.fifa’ was delighted with a promising VBL debut: Colin Völter was re-registered by Holstein Kiel between the years, and in the 1-2 draw against Schalke’s July, the 19-year-old only narrowly missed out on the hoped-for point. As a team, Kiel lost 1:7 against S04, which meant that Holstein ended the first half of the season in last place.

The start to the second half of the season was much more promising, with Nils ‘Samstag_11’ Mohr (4:2 against Fabian ‘B04_Dubzje’ de Cae) and Cihat ‘Cihat_6161’Korkmaz as well as Marvin ‘karpfenlive’ Schmidt-Tychsen (2:2 against ‘marc_ldw23’ and Paul ‘B04_Paul’ Degner) ensuring a 4:4 against Leverkusen and a respectable result.

Gladbach ups and downs continue

Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s rollercoaster ride continues – surprising victories and bitter defeats constantly alternate. In the 2:5 against Leverkusen, Eleftherios ‘bmg_lefti’ Ilias and Georgios ‘bmg_pgeorge’ Papatolis missed a possible victory in the doubles, against ‘marc_ldw23’ and ‘B04_Paul’ there was a 0:2.

Both had previously drawn in the singles. In contrast, Borussia showed its better side again in the 5:2 against Hamburg, ‘bmg_pgeorge’ secured the sixth win of the season with a victory on PlayStation 5 against Daniel ‘HSV_Daniel7’ Dwelk (3:2). Gladbach thus defended their fourth place – but are only four points ahead of seventh-placed Rostock.
