Van de Sanden leads a commanding home victory: Wölfinen a number too big for Cologne

On Matchday 5, the Cologne women were guests in Wolfsburg. The Wolves lived up to their role as favourites and claimed a home victory against Cologne, who are still looking for their first three points of the season.

In terms of personnel, three new players started for the hosts after the 3-3 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League. Wolter, Oberdorf and Waßmuth were replaced by van de Sanden, Starke and Knaak.

At the beginning of the match, VfL made it clear that they wanted to remain unbeaten in their fifth match of the season. The Wolves pressed and Cologne defended deep in their own half. Hendrich put the first exclamation mark on the hosts with her shot against the post (17th), before van de Sanden scored the 1:0 with her head (36th).

Not much more happened until half-time and the game went into the break with a 1:0 lead. Cologne continued to find it difficult to make pinpricks.

Roord and Huth extend the lead

In the second half, there were no big chances in an even match. Cologne no longer hid in their own half and put some pressure on the hosts. Nevertheless, both teams neutralised each other in midfield, which is why there were no highlights on either side.

In the 73rd minute of the game, it was Roord who scored the next goal for the VfL ladies and rewarded the Wolves for a mini period of pressure, before Huth scored the 3:0 final score (85th). The rest of the final phase was unspectacular, as the Wolves left nothing to be desired and the Cologne women acted too uninspired in the offensive.

For the VfL ladies, the Champions League match against Servette FC Chenois Feminin is scheduled for Wednesday at 6.45 pm. The Cologne women will make their next attempt to claim their first treble of the season next Sunday against Carl Zeiss Jena (4 p.m.
