US Open: Venus Williams to Play in Singles

Venus Williams will compete at the US Open. As she did last year, the 46-year-old has received a wild card for the main draw.

Former world-class tennis player Venus Williams will take the court again this year at the US Open. As the organizers announced on Tuesday, the 46-year-old American received one of eight wild cards for the singles competition at the year’s final Grand Slam tournament (starting August 30).

For Williams, who won the tournament in 2000 and 2001, this will be her 26th appearance overall. Last year, she was already the oldest US Open participant since Renee Richards (USA), who competed in New York in 1981 at the age of 47. In 2025, Williams was eliminated in the first round in three sets by the Czech player Karolina Muchova.

US Open: Will Serena Williams also be competing?

The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who will be competing in her second major tournament of the year in 2026 following the Australian Open, has not won a singles match in over a year. Most recently, she teamed up with her younger sister Serena (44) in doubles at Cincinnati but lost in the first round.

Meanwhile, fans are also hoping for Serena Williams to participate, as she made her comeback at Wimbledon in July. The 23-time Grand Slam champion last played a singles match at the 2022 U.S. Open—the organizers have yet to decide whether to grant her a wild card for this year’s tournament.
