Defender Joshua Quarshie will be playing in England in the future. According to reports, the 20-year-old is leaving his home club TSG Hoffenheim and moving to Premier League relegated side FC Southampton.
After spending the last six months on loan at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Joshua Quarshie is now moving to England. He will join Championship club FC Southampton. Quarshie is expected to sign a long-term contract, with the transfer fee amounting to around €3.5 million.
Guest at German youth teams
The Duisburg native was trained in the youth teams of Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Schalke, among others, before making the leap to the professional ranks with TSG in the 2022/23 season. Quarshie, who is 1.96 meters tall and was the fastest player in the 2nd division last season, was then loaned to Düsseldorf and finally to Fürth. In Franconia, he became a regular starter and was the best-rated regular player in the second half of the season with a kicker average of 3.17.
After five mostly short appearances for Fortuna, Quarshie became the difference maker in an unstable defense for Kleeblatt. With his performances and consistency, the left-footed player was an important key to the team staying in the league. These stable performances were also noticed in England.
This is another reason why Quarshie is moving to the island, where his physical profile should suit him well. Southampton entered the past Premier League season as a promoted team, but was already confirmed as the first team to be relegated very early on and ended up with only twelve points. Will Still is taking over as head coach of the Saints in the English second division.
Quarshie was recently nominated for the German U-21 national team, but has yet to make an appearance. However, he has played regularly for the DFB’s U-20 and U-19 teams in the past.
