As a publicly traded club, Trabzonspor is required to disclose such information.
According to consistent media reports, word then leaked that Salah would undergo a medical exam at Trabzon on Wednesday and subsequently sign a two-year contract on the Black Sea. That is exactly what happened, as the club officially announced on Thursday.
A Princely Salary for Salah
Trabzonspor has thus pulled off one of the biggest transfer coups in the club’s recent history. However, Salah’s services are also worth a lot to the club; according to Turkish media, the striker is set to earn 17 million euros per year.
With Salah, an absolute superstar is moving to Turkey—one who recently demonstrated at the World Cup that he remains a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. In recent years, the Egyptian has been the epitome of world-class play at Liverpool FC. Since 2017, the 34-year-old has made 412 appearances for the Reds, scoring an impressive 244 goals—making him the third-highest scorer in club history. With 193 league goals, he is the fourth-highest scorer in Premier League history and has been England’s top scorer four times.
Last season, Salah no longer had the same major impact at Liverpool that fans had come to expect from him in previous years. In 27 league games, he scored “only” seven goals, and he added three in the Champions League. The relationship between the player and the club began to show slight cracks; Salah didn’t always see eye to eye with coach Arne Slot and occasionally complained about not getting enough playing time.
