After just over an hour, six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has already wrapped up her match.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek (25) is in top form heading into the U.S. Open (starting August 30). The Polish player defeated Russian French Open semifinalist Diana Schnaider 6-2, 6-1 in just 64 minutes of play and advanced to the final four at the WTA Masters in Toronto.
For Swiatek, this is only her second Tour semifinal of the year. “I feel good on the court. I know how much I’ve trained and what we’ve been doing during practice sessions,” said the 25-year-old. “That gives me confidence.”
In the semifinals, Swiatek will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, who defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. “Of course, she’s a great player. She’s playing really well in this tournament,” Svitolina said of Swiatek: “I’ll have to give it my all.”
At the US Open, Swiatek is aiming to celebrate her second title after 2022. She is currently ranked eighth in the world.
