The Bayern striker does not wish to get involved in the public debate surrounding the Ballon d’Or award.
Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane has reacted calmly to the bold statements made by Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé, five weeks ahead of the Ballon d’Or ceremony. “Everyone has the right to express themselves however they like. That’s not my responsibility,” said the Englishman: “I don’t really like talking about myself; I’d rather let my actions on the pitch do the talking.”
And those are certainly impressive. In Munich’s comfortable 7–0 win over Union Berlin on Friday, Kane scored his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals. It took him just 98 matches to break the 100-goal mark. No one has ever done it faster. Kane is regarded as one of the top favourites to win the Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in London on 26 October. “I’ll just wait and see what happens,” he said: “I’ll just carry on doing my thing on the pitch.”
Spanish World Cup winner Yamal (FC Barcelona) and France’s superstar Mbappé (Real Madrid) had recently staked their claims for the Ballon d’Or and publicly promoted their own cases. Kane refrained from passing judgement, but he did praise his rivals. “Yamal is an incredible player. He’s had a great season, just like many others,” said the 33-year-old: “Mbappé, Michael (Olise), Rodri. There are plenty of candidates.”
Unlike Yamal or Rodri, who became world champions in the summer, Kane missed out on an international title. With Bayern, he was knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain; at the World Cup, he finished third with England.
