Third new signing: Liverpool sign right-back Ramsay

Champions League finalists Liverpool FC have announced their third new summer signing: Calvin Ramsay (18), Scotland’s best young professional, is moving to Anfield Road

He is probably not Liverpool FC’s king transfer of the summer, but Calvin Ramsay could provide valuable relief for Trent Alexander-Arnold as a backup. After the attackers Fabio Carvalho (Fulham) and Darwin (Benfica), the 18-year-old from Aberdeen FC is the third new acquisition of the Reds.

The Scottish U-21 international was recently voted best young professional in the Scottish Premier League and can also be deployed on the right side of midfield – so the teenager brings plenty of attacking drive à la Alexander-Arnold. In 39 games for Aberdeen he collected nine assists in addition to a goal.

The chance for young players

Ramsay, who will wear shirt number 22 at LFC, has signed a “long-term contract” and describes it as “a dream to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world” in the club’s statement. Emphasis on “play”: “A lot of young players have been used here, the opportunity is definitely there,” the 18-year-old believes. “So if I make a good impression in preparation, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t make the first-team squad.”

Jürgen Klopp describes Ramsay as “athletic, clever and technically strong”.
