“The opportunity is now here”: Silver sets timetable for launch of NBA Europe

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has once again spoken about the upcoming NBA Europe and has set a clear timetable.

At a Front Office Sports event, Silver said he plans to launch the new NBA league in Europe in 2027 or 2028. There is no fixed schedule yet, but he explained that a 2027 launch is “ambitious” but not out of the question. “I don’t think I want to wait much longer than ’28,” Silver said. “The opportunity is now there to do something like this.” Silver also hinted early on that a launch around the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles would make sense. “Basketball is probably the fastest-growing sport in the world and the clear number two in Europe behind soccer. That’s why I see a real opportunity here,” Silver continued.
