Things have been quiet around David Alaba in recent months, but the veteran could soon be back in action. His father, George, has spoken out – including on possible next destinations.
He hasn’t retired yet, but David Alaba would like to get back to playing. The 34-year-old, who was not selected by Ralf Rangnick for the upcoming Nations League matches, is still without a club.
Following the expiry of his contract at Real Madrid, where the defender had been sidelined for most of the past few years due to injury, a new chapter now lies ahead – at least according to Alaba’s father George, speaking to the Kronen Zeitung: “He’s fit, feeling good and will soon announce what’s next.”
According to Alaba Senior, there is interest from the US, but also from Europe – although “out of respect for his former clubs”, not all clubs are under consideration.
“It’s too early at the moment”
His youth club, Austria Vienna, would naturally be a logical choice for a return, and George Alaba also confirms that contact has been made: “Yes, they want him. David wants it too. But at the moment it’s too early for him. He still has a lot of plans when it comes to football.” In the slightly more distant future, however, a return could “come about”.
Alaba Junior, a two-time Champions League winner with both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, was in the Austrian starting line-up for all four matches at the World Cup this summer. He has not played in a competitive match since then.
