That’s why Tuchel is impressed by Kane

England’s star striker Harry Kane could become his country’s all-time leading appearance-maker on Tuesday.

England’s national football manager Thomas Tuchel is deeply impressed by his star striker Harry Kane’s hunger for records. “I think all these number nines in the world, no matter which league or at youth level, are cut from a slightly different cloth,” said Tuchel ahead of Tuesday’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium in London.

There, in his 125th international appearance, Kane can draw level with record international Peter Shilton; he has long been his country’s record goalscorer with 89 goals to date. “You won’t find a striker of this calibre who hasn’t set himself these personal goals and who pushes himself to his limits as a result. So that’s what drives him. That’s just the way Harry is,” said Tuchel.

Kane has so far been denied a major title

Since his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich in 2023, Kane has been the Bundesliga’s top scorer every season. It was only in September that he reached the 100-goal mark in his 98th Bundesliga match, becoming the fastest player in history to do so. Having scored 61 goals in 51 competitive matches last season, the 33-year-old is regarded as one of the top contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Kane has so far been denied a major title with the national team. He finished as European Championship runner-up in 2021 and 2024, whilst the Three Lions came third at this year’s World Cup. With Bayern, he has so far won the German league title and the Super Cup twice, as well as the DFB-Pokal once.
