Belinda Bencic celebrates her first tournament victory as a mother. The win sees the Swiss return to the top 70 in the world rankings.
Tokyo Olympics champion Belinda Bencic has won a title on the WTA Tour less than a year after the birth of her daughter Bella. The 27-year-old Swiss won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 against the US American Ashlyn Krueger at the tennis tournament in Abu Dhabi.
It is her first title in two years, when she also triumphed in Abu Dhabi. The victory sees her jump back into the top 70 in the world rankings.
Bencic returned to the tennis circuit after her maternity leave last October and promptly reached the final of a smaller tournament in Angers, France.
She also impressed at the Australian Open at the beginning of the season in Melbourne, reaching the round of 16.
At the end of 2023, she had taken maternity leave and gave birth to her daughter in April 2024 – now she is making an impressive comeback.
