Swarm of bees: tennis match postponed by 90 minutes

A swarm of bees at the WTA tennis tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, caused the postponement of the first-round match between Petra Kvitová (Czech Republic) and Bernarda Pera (USA).

On social media, the organiser posted pictures showing countless bees on the roofing of the umpire’s high chair.

Only after an exterminator had removed the swarm could the match start after a delay of around 90 minutes. She had never experienced anything like this before, said the 32-year-old Kvitova after her victory (6:3, 7:5): “And I’ve been on the tour for 20 years now”.
