Successor to Gerrard: Van Bronckhorst takes over Rangers

Round a week after the departure of success coach Steven Gerrard Glasgow Rangers have signed an old acquaintance as successor with Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Van Bronckhorst had already played for the Scots as a player from 1998 to 2001 and won five titles with Rangers during that time – in addition to two championships, two Scottish Cup victories and once the League Cup.

Gerrard, who celebrated his first championship with the club last year after slumping to League 4, left Glasgow last week following an offer from Premier League side Aston Villa.

Van Bronckhorst had last coached Chinese Premier League side Guangzhou in 2020 until December. The 46-year-old had previously coached in his native Netherlands at Feyenoord Rotterdam from 2015 to 2019.
