Successful European comeback after 21 years: MBC gets off to a confident start

After a break of more than two decades, SYNTAINICS MBC has returned to the international stage. In their opening game in the European North Basketball League, the Wolves won convincingly against Estonian representatives TTU/Le Coq Tallinn with a score of 84:57.

Marcus Foster (20), Spencer Reaves (17), Charles Callison, and John Bryant (10 each) contributed the most to the victory. Taavi Jurkatamm (14) and Oliver Metsalu (12) scored the most points for the visitors. On March 28, 2004, the Weißenfels team made its last appearance in an international club competition in Izmir. At that time, the Central German team won the FIBA Europe Cup final against JDA Dijon 84-68.

Clear improvement after the break

The hosts struggled in the opening quarter and trailed 29-30 (15th minute). The Central Germans were only able to convert one of their ten attempts from the three-point line in the first two quarters. By halftime, the home team had managed to build up an eight-point lead thanks to their more intense defense.

In the third quarter, the home team came out strong and laid the foundation for success with a 22:8 run to make it 65:43 (30th minute). Their better shooting percentage of 48 percent compared to only 33 percent for the visitors was the deciding factor in Weißenfels’ successful comeback on the European stage. On Sunday, the MBC will travel to Hamburg to start the new BBL season.
