Sturm’s Farewell Fight Set

Five-time world champion Felix Sturm will face Granit Stein in Stuttgart in his farewell fight.

Former boxing world champion Felix Sturm will fight the final bout of his eventful career on July 11. The 47-year-old will then step into the ring in Stuttgart against Granit Stein from Ingolstadt for his farewell performance. This also makes it clear that Sturm will not, as previously announced, attempt to win his sixth world title.

“Of course, there’s heartache. I love this sport, I love the preparation, that feeling before the fight. That will never happen again after this. But at some point, you have to be honest with yourself. The time has come,” said Sturm: “My family—my wife and my father—have agreed to this final fight, on the clear condition that this is it. And I’m keeping that promise. After that, it’s finally over.”

Sturm makes his farewell appearance

Sturm last fought in February 2025, defeating Benjamin Blindert by knockout in the third round. After his 45th victory in his 54th professional fight (six losses, three draws), he had set his sights on another world title.

But things went quiet around Sturm after that, until he made his return: “I didn’t want a quiet farewell. After more than 35 years in boxing, I owe this sport an incredible amount and wanted to say goodbye to my fans in a fitting setting.”

Before this final chapter, Sturm looks back on a great career. After his professional debut in 2001, his controversial 2004 loss to U.S. icon Oscar De La Hoya made him famous, if not before. As a leading figure, he shaped German boxing in the 2000s and drew millions of people to their TV screens.

He became world champion five times, most recently in 2016. But Sturm also made negative headlines: he had to serve a prison sentence for tax evasion and violating anti-doping laws.
