Nick Woltemade is still a long way from securing a place in the starting line-up following his move from Newcastle United to Juventus Turin. Now the fans have offered some somewhat unexpected encouragement to the German international striker.
He found it hard to smile on Sunday evening, even though Nick Woltemade had won his first trophy as a Juventus Turin player. After the warm-up ahead of the 2–0 win against SSC Napoli, the 24-year-old striker was named Player of the Month for October by the Italian record champions.
Yet the German international striker has still not scored in eight Serie A matches since his move from Newcastle United to the Bianconeri in early September. So why this award? One possible explanation lies in the Europa League: on 15 October, in the 2–1 away win against Celta Vigo, Woltemade sparked the turnaround with his right-footed shot to make it 1–1. A week later, against Stade Rennes, the forward first set up Mehmet Zeki Celik for the early 1–0 lead, before Woltemade scored from the penalty spot to make it 2–2.
Manager Luciano Spalletti has taken note of this, yet expects more from the new signing, although he did play him for the full 90 minutes against Napoli. Furthermore, the former Stuttgart player can hope to be called up again by Jürgen Klopp for the German national team on Thursday.
