Holger Rune’s rough patch just seems to have no end in sight. The former world No. 4 has also withdrawn from the third Grand Slam of the year, the grass-court classic at Wimbledon.
This is evident from the organizer’s official entry list. According to the list, Rune withdrew his entry on June 18. French player Titouan Droguet will take his place in the main draw.
Tennis: Another Setback for Rune
After tearing his Achilles tendon last October, Rune had actually hoped to return to the tour this past May at the ATP tournament in Hamburg. But the comeback came too soon for the former protégé of Boris Becker.
Now comes the next setback: His comeback is being delayed further and further. Rune suffered the serious injury in October 2025 at the ATP tournament in Stockholm. He subsequently had to undergo surgery and begin a long rehabilitation phase.
Wimbledon: Alcaraz Withdraws Early
Carlos Alcaraz (Wimbledon champion in 2023 and 2024), one of the top stars, had already withdrawn from Wimbledon early on May 27.
On Wednesday, Italian Lorenzo Musetti and American Sebastian Korda also withdrew from the tournament. On Thursday, in addition to Rune, the Czech Tomas Machac also withdrew.
Following the wave of withdrawals, the chances that Germany’s No. 1, Alexander Zverev, will claim his second Grand Slam title have likely increased. To do so, however, he would have to get past his nemesis, Jannik Sinner.
