EWE Baskets Oldenburg lost their home opener in the BBL against the Skyliners from Frankfurt. After a comfortable halftime lead, the team collapsed in the final quarter, while the visitors from Frankfurt crowned their strong comeback.
The Frankfurt Skyliners won 89-75 at EWE Baskets Oldenburg in their opening game, celebrating a perfect start to the new season. The hosts initially had everything under control: Led by Chris Clemons, who finished with 19 points (5 rebounds, 5 assists), the Baskets took a 44-32 lead at the break. Frankfurt struggled offensively, found little rhythm from the three-point line, and appeared to be inferior up to that point.
However, the momentum shifted after the break. The Skyliners increased the pressure on defense and worked their way back into the game step by step. Logan Johnson (11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists) and Isaiah Swope (15 points) made important contributions, reducing the deficit to three points before the final quarter. The final quarter then saw the game decided: Frankfurt overran the hosts with a 35-18 run and completely turned the game around. The top scorer was Till Pape with 22 points, who was unstoppable in crunch time. Oldenburg could no longer keep up with the pace and ultimately had to concede a surprisingly clear away win to the Skyliners.
