Jannik Sinner advances to the final in Madrid as well. The world No. 1 now awaits the winner of the match between Alexander Zverev and Alexander Blockx.
Jannik Sinner has advanced to the final of the ATP Masters in Madrid. The world No. 1 confidently defeated France’s Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4 in just under an hour and a half and will now face the winner of the match between Alexander Zverev and Alexander Blockx of Belgium on Sunday (8:00 p.m.).
“I played at a very high level, but I’m focusing on raising my level a little bit more. Especially when things get serious in the tournament,” Sinner said after the match.
Sinner to face Zverev again?
Against Fils, the 24-year-old broke early in the match to take a 2-1 lead. After that, the Frenchman had little to offer against Sinner’s powerful play.
It wasn’t until the second set that Sinner faltered briefly: Fils initially fended off two break points and took a 3-2 lead before putting Sinner under pressure on his next service game. But the Italian held his serve with two aces and closed out the match without further trouble.
For Sinner, it was his 22nd consecutive victory. Another win on Sunday in the Madrid final would mean his fifth consecutive title at a 1000-level tournament.
