Following Siegemund’s elimination, only one German player remains in the running in Dubai.
Professional tennis player Laura Siegemund has once again been eliminated in the first round of a WTA tournament. In Dubai on Monday, the 37-year-old lost 2-6, 3-6 to Australia’s Daria Kasatkina. This means that Ella Seidel is the last German remaining in the tournament. Kasatkina will face fifth-seeded Russian Mirra Andrejewa in the second round.
Siegemund had already been eliminated in the first round in Doha at the beginning of February. The Wimbledon quarterfinalist was unable to find her rhythm against Kasatkina either, failing to win any of her service games in the first set. In the second set, the Russian-born player controlled the match with confidence and converted her second match point after 1 hour and 28 minutes.
In addition to Siegemund, two other German players were in the main draw in Dubai. Seidel, who had qualified, defeated Spain’s Cristina Bucsa in the first round, while Tatjana Maria lost to Australia’s Kimberly Birrell. Seidel now faces a duel with Canadian shooting star Victoria Mboko.
