Showdown between Sinner and Alcaraz

The two best tennis players in the world will meet in the Wimbledon final on Sunday. The industry leader considers the Spaniard to be the favorite.

Ahead of his rematch with Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final, Carlos Alcaraz cautiously expressed a wish. “I just hope I don’t have to spend five and a half hours on court again,” said the Spanish tennis star with a laugh – before adding resolutely: “But if I have to, I will.”

Five weeks after the epic French Open final over five sets and 5:29 hours, the world’s best tennis players are facing each other again. In the final at Church Road, Sinner has the chance for revenge. “He’s the favorite. He’s won here twice in a row. He’s back in the final. It’s very difficult to beat him on grass. But I like these challenges,” said Sinner after giving Grand Slam record champion Novak Djokovic no chance in three sets.

The world number one will need an even better performance against Alcaraz in his first Wimbledon final on Sunday. Sinner has lost the last five matches against the Spaniard, who has won 24 in a row and is unbeaten in 20 matches at the grass court classic. He could become the fifth man in the Open Era (since 1968) to win three Wimbledon titles in a row.

However, the Spaniard does not believe he has a psychological advantage from the Roland Garros final, in which Alcaraz saved three match points on his way to victory. “He will be physically better, he will be mentally better. He will be ready to give 100 percent on Sunday,” said Alcaraz.

The last six Grand Slam titles have been shared fairly between the two exceptional players, who have dominated the tour at will for around two years. After the era of Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, this rivalry is likely to shape the coming years. “What we’re doing right now,” Alcaraz said when asked about it, “is great for tennis.”
